Is an objective necessary?

Objectives are no longer recommended on a resume. They are usually too general, so save the space on your resume to include pertinent information that will help you get an interview. Instead, you can include a Professional Summary on your resume, which will be 1-2 sentences summarizing your qualifications for the position.
