Do I have to take an exam after I graduate to practice as a Surgical Technologist?

Yes, to become credentialed and practice as a surgical technologist graduates must take and pass a national certification examination administered by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA.org). The exam is scheduled and taken as a group on the Owens Campus (usually the Tuesday after graduation). To maintain this credential registrants must submit 30 hours of continuing education to the Association of Surgical Technology (www.ast.org) every 24 months.
